The Challenge
Betamotor S.p.A. is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer, founded in Florence in 1905 and specialized in the production and sale of off-road, motocross, enduro and trial motorcycles. As for trial motorcycles,the company is internationally recognized as a market leader, having won 13 world championship titles. The company’s constant growth, both in terms of business size and international market share, led Betamotor to invest in a complete renewal of its technology and information platform as a key enabler to support the growth.
The solution
The collaboration between Alfa Sistemi and Betamotor began in 2016, after being selected as the main provider for the company system integration. The project focused on two main workstreams – the implementation of the company’s new ERP system, Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, and the deployment of Oracle Business Analytics solution, to provide clear visibility into company performance based on key performance indicators.
The project ran for 13 months and was structured into two main phases according to a well-established methodology applied in Alfa Sistemi.
- Assessment phase to map key strategic business processes and study the current state (“as is”) and design the target state (“to be”). This phase provided a twofold benefit: it enabled Alfa Sistemi to deeply understand client context and industry and fostered the creation of a common ground of mutual understanding facilitating collaboration during the project phase;
- Implementation phase to deploy Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ERP system spanning across Finance and Accounting, Production, Warehouse operations, Supply Chain and Logistics following tight compliance regulations of the automotive industry.
The Benefits
The project was launched in 2016 with the main goal to deliver a modern, agile, unified and integrated ERP system capable of managing data across departments in a consistent, unified manner, minimizing errors from data redundancy and manual entry.
Accordinly, the project focused on solutions to:
- Monitor in real-time the production flow: assembly lines were equipped with smart PCs enabling real-time production activity tracking
- Maximize warehouse efficiency across two facilities—one for vehicles and one for spare parts—with distinct operational requirements each. The vehicle warehouse shipping process was improved leveraging handheld barcode scanners, while the spare parts warehouse, already equipped with handheld devices, was optimized focusing on the packaging phase.
- Streamline the shipping process through integrated data flows enabling seamless information exchange with carriers.
- Implement a Business Intelligence solution tightly integrated with the ERP system, enabling management to monitor company performance against key performance indicators.
