AI in Business with a Method: Interview with Favini’s ICT Director
Introducing AI into a company without creating organizational chaos is one of the most significant challenges IT Managers face today. Favini chose to start with a Microsoft 365 Copilot workshop, developed together with Alfa Sistemi/Tempestive, as the first step in a structured journey toward generative AI adoption. We spoke with Alessandro Artuso, ICT Director at Favini, to learn more about the reasons, objectives, and results behind this approach.
What motivated you to create this workshop?
First and foremost, there was a need to bring clarity to a widely discussed topic such as artificial intelligence, which is often not fully understood. The goal is to guide the organization through a gradual and informed journey, avoiding rushed and poorly structured approaches. Starting with a tool such as Microsoft 365 Copilot makes it possible to demonstrate tangible benefits in everyday activities right away, while ensuring security and governance and reducing reliance on uncontrolled external tools.
What key messages and best practices emerged from the workshop?
The workshop made it clear that AI should not be viewed as a replacement technology, but as a tool that enhances people’s capabilities. The user plays a central role: the quality of the output depends on how the tool is used. Formulating clear, contextualized requests, commonly referred to as effective prompting, is essential. It is equally important to maintain a critical approach to AI-generated content: AI is an accelerator, not an infallible source.

What practical benefits can an ICT Director gain by establishing a structured company-wide approach to AI tools?
A structured approach makes it possible to move from a reactive to a proactive mindset: defining rules, tools, and priorities while maintaining control over security, data, and compliance. This makes it possible to guide adoption in a way that is consistent with the company’s strategy, avoiding fragmentation and uncoordinated initiatives. At the same time, it strengthens the role of IT as a strategic function, capable not only of supporting the business but also of driving innovation.
What are the main challenges and future pressures facing IT in relation to AI?
The main challenges concern usage governance, data quality, skills gaps, and the complexity of integrating AI with existing systems. Looking ahead, these pressures will increase: organizations will be expected to deliver faster and more measurable results, while requirements around security, compliance, and ethics will continue to grow. IT will be called upon to strengthen its strategic role, finding the right balance between innovation and control, without becoming obsessed with implementing AI solutions at all costs or too quickly.
Favini’s experience shows that the difference between successful AI adoption and an initiative that remains confined to a pilot project lies in the method: defining a clear journey, choosing tools that are consistent with the existing ecosystem, and providing structured training for employees.
