The challenge
ABS – Acciaierie Bertoli Safau is the Danieli Group’s steelmaking division. Founded in Friuli (Italy) in the early 1800s, today the company is a leader in the international steel industry. One key to its success has been the continuous pursuit of absolute excellence, through ever-higher quality standards in both products and services. The company’s willingness to experiment and test new solutions—supported by Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche and Danieli Automation—has enabled it to stay one step ahead of competitors and constantly improve its performance.
After years of business—with operations growing over the last 10 years—the company had to manage several complex interfaces to connect the various systems used. To improve monitoring activities and ensure 24/7 operational support and continuous service, it needed to evolve and enhance integration across its entire technology ecosystem.
To achieve this, ABS looked for a partner that could provide the most suitable and sustainable solution, able to adapt to future developments in the steel industry, regardless of the vendor or the technology itself.
Alfa Sistemi’s approach to software selection was a key strength in this project, and the client particularly appreciated it. Rather than simply proposing solutions designed by Oracle (Alfa’s vendor partner for nearly 20 years), the team evaluated, studied, and tested multiple alternatives before identifying the best fit for ABS’s needs and structure.

The solution
The partnership between Alfa Sistemi and ABS began in 2019 with a pilot project aimed at replacing the complex system of interfaces used until then to connect all the various autonomous business systems. The client sought a flexible, self-consistent solution that would scale with the business and could be implemented quickly.
From the very beginning, the two teams cooperated effectively. The people involved were not only competent, but also transparent and willing to take risks together, as true partners, to achieve a common goal. The company embraced Alfa’s challenge to adopt an Oracle Enterprise Cloud solution—despite having no prior experience with it —that could adapt and integrate seamlessly with the SAP solutions ABS was already using.
After evaluating various market solutions, the company decided to implement Oracle Cloud Platform and Oracle Integration Cloud, two solutions that enabled integration across the entire application ecosystem, including the compliance management system, the production support system, MES, the B2B portal for order management, and many others.
The decision to implement Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) proved to be the right one, since it is: adaptable, with over 100 connectors available to integrate with virtually any existing system; comprehensive, supporting both cloud and on-premise environments; secure and cost-effective, enabling ABS to increase efficiency while reducing costs in a clear and predictable way for the future.
