CHALLENGE

ABS -Acciaierie Bertoli Safau-, the steelmaking division of the Danieli Group, founded in Friuli in the early 1800s, is today a leader in the international steel industry. One of the keys to the success of this industrial reality can certainly be attributed to the continuous search for absolute excellence, which translates into ever-higher quality standards both in terms of products and services offered. The propensity to experiment and test new solutions, also thanks to the support of Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche and Danieli Automation, allows the company to stay one step ahead of the competition and to constantly improve its results.

After years of operation and especially with the escalation of the last 10 years, the company found itself operating with a complex system of interfaces to connect the different systems in use. In order to have better control and ensure 24/7 operational support and continuous service, there was a need to evolve and improve the integration between the entire technology ecosystem.

The goal was to identify a partner that could provide the most suitable solution, sustainable over time and also capable of adapting to future developments in the steel industry, regardless of the vendor or the technology itself.

SOLUTION

The collaboration between Alfa Sistemi and ABS began in 2019 with the implementation of a pilot project with the ultimate goal of divesting the complex system of interfaces used until then to connect all the different autonomous business systems. As a desired outcome, the Client expected to obtain a self-consistent asset that would grow with the business, be flexible and have a fast implementation time.
From the very first moments a great harmony emerged between the two teams where, in addition to the competence and preparation of the people involved, the great transparency and willingness to take risks together, as true partners, to achieve the goal was appreciated from the very beginning. The challenge taken up by the company was to accept the provocation proposed by the consultants with the entry into the company of an Oracle Enterprise cloud solution that was absolutely unfamiliar, but able to adapt and integrate well with the SAP solutions in use at ABS.

After an initial evaluation of various solutions on the market, it was therefore decided to implement Oracle Cloud Platform and Oracle Integration Cloud, two solutions that enabled the management system to dialogue with the entire application ecosystem in use such as, for example, the compliance management system, the production support system, MES, the B2B portal for order management, and many others.

The decision to implement Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) proved to be the right one as it is an adaptable solution due to the more than 100 connectors available to connect almost any existing system, comprehensive due to its ability to make both cloud and on premise solution talk to each other, secure and cost-effective that allowed the Client to increase efficiency and lower costs that are also for the future clear and predictable.
